The first time I came to Umbria was in 1999 on a family trip. I told everyone I had to see Assisi and Perugia, and we did, but an equally important reason was to visit Deruta.
The ancient town has been famous for pottery since the 13th century and I desperately wanted a set of hand-painted Deruta pottery. Eventually finding the house in Bettona — only 8 kilometers from Deruta — was a very happy coincidence. I shop there often and have become friends with a few of the artisans.
Why the site then? I was frustrated that I couldn’t find a beautiful urn for my partner’s ashes so I decided I’d design my own. Working with some of the best artists in Deruta I have fashioned a line of gifts and urns that highlight what we do best in Deruta. And, yes, they are the most beautiful urns out there.
